A Prayer for Powerful Living in Light of Coming Judgement

It is easy to become distracted by the temporary concerns of this life, but Isaiah lifts our eyes to the certainty of God’s coming judgment over the whole earth. The Day of the Lord is not merely a future event to study—it is a present motivation to live faithfully, steward every opportunity, and call others to Christ while there is still time. Every gift, relationship, and resource God has entrusted to us carries eternal significance. As you pray today, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with urgency, perseverance, and faithfulness so that when you stand before Christ, you will know you lived wholeheartedly for His glory.

Prayer

Holy Spirit help me to never get off task because judgement is coming. I’ll live my life with an urgency. The Day of the Lord will be upon us soon (Joel 2:31). You’re the righteous judge. You execute justice upon the world at Your appointed time. In light of this, help me to fulfill my call. I don’t want any talents left in the sand that have not been used for Your kingdom (Matthew 25:14-30). Holy Spirit, help me to leverage every talent, ability, gift, cent, energy, resource, relationship for Your kingdom. I want to fulfill my call. I don’t want to leave anything on the table so I can stand before You in a good conscience (2 Corinthians 5:10 and Matthew 25:31-46). Also, in light of Your coming judgement, may I be effective at calling people into Your kingdom. This world is blind to what’s coming. Turn many toward You in faith, repentance and discipleship. Make Your people effective at spreading the gospel in Jesus name, the coming judge, amen. 

Isaiah 24:1-13

Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word. The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh. The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth. They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in. There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.This chapter shifts to a broader vision of worldwide judgment, often seen as describing end-time desolation where sin brings curse and ruin upon the whole earth, leaving only a small remnant.
