A Prayer for a Godly Legacy
The decisions we make today can have consequences that extend far beyond our own lifetime. When Isaiah warned King Hezekiah about the coming judgment on Judah, Hezekiah seemed more concerned about peace during his own lifetime than the future of his descendants. This passage challenges us to examine our priorities, think beyond ourselves, and pray for wisdom to leave a godly legacy for future generations.
Prayer
Father, give me a vision for the generations that follow me. Give me a greater vision for legacy than Hezekiah had. Burn the conviction into my heart that You’re the God of the generations, and that my influence can be passed down from generation to generation for the good or for the ill. Put a determination in my heart that my influence and my heritage will be of the highest quality possible in the name of Jesus, the God of the generations, amen.
Isaiah 39:5-8
Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord Almighty: The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the Lord. And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
“The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “There will be peace and security in my lifetime.”
