A Prayer for Isaiah’s Trust and Fortitude

Faith often requires us to obey God when His commands seem confusing, uncomfortable, or even humiliating. Isaiah became a living illustration of God’s message, enduring years of public embarrassment because he trusted the Lord more than the opinions of people. While many placed their confidence in political alliances and human strength, Isaiah rested in God’s Word, and in time the Lord vindicated him. As you pray today, ask God to give you the same unwavering courage to trust Him completely, even when obedience is costly and the outcome cannot yet be seen.

Prayer

Father, I know when I trust in people and in worldly wisdom, then I’ll be stripped, exposed and taken captive. The world’s wisdom doesn’t even work for them, Ashdod’s King couldn’t even trust Egypt for his protection.  We can’t trust the actions, wisdom and ways of unbelievers. When we do we’ll only be unraveled and humiliated. In contrast, give us a trust in You like that of Isaiah. Your servant Isaiah was willing to humiliate himself because he trusted in Your words. Nevertheless, his humiliation gave way to honor as Your words were fulfilled in his life. You vindicated his message before his people. Give me that same fortitude and trust in Jesus name, amen.

Isaiah 20:1-6

In the year that the supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it—at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, “Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.” And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot. Then the Lord said, “Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush, so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared—to Egypt’s shame. Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame. In that day the people who live on this coast will say, ‘See what has happened to those we relied on, those we fled to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?’”
