A Prayer to the Lord, the God of War

Isaiah 28 presents the Lord as both a sure foundation and a victorious warrior. Human systems, political power, false security, and agreements built apart from God will ultimately fail, but the cornerstone God has established will never be shaken. The Lord fights against deception and injustice while patiently cultivating His people like a farmer preparing a field for harvest. As you pray today, place your confidence in Christ, ask God to confront the powers that oppose His purposes, and invite the Holy Spirit to prepare hearts to receive His Word and produce a harvest of faith, freedom, and spiritual maturity.

Prayer

Father, thank You for Jesus, the coming King, who will establish the kingdom of justice on the Earth and cancel our covenant of death. The power brokers of our time tremble at this thought, but their leadership is nothing but short sheets and beds that can’t be fitted into. The power of this world is failing and is inadequate at best. You’re a warrior that’s victorious in battle. You’re planning to fight the earthly power-brokers at Your return, but I pray You’ll fight them now. Fight for the souls of men! Send Your Spirit to shut up the mockers who mock Your word. Have the Holy Spirit release faith in the hearts of people so their chains can be broken. Holy Spirit help people plow the field of their heart, so the seeds of Your word can be sowed into it. Produce a harvest of faith and maturity. Thresh the harvest of their heart and teach them Your ways, thus producing prosperity of mind, spirit and soul in the name of Jesus, the warrior God, amen. 

Isaiah 28:16-29

So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic. I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line; hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie, and water will overflow your hiding place. Your covenant with death will be annulled; your agreement with the realm of the dead will not stand. When the overwhelming scourge sweeps by, you will be beaten down by it. As often as it comes it will carry you away; morning after morning, by day and by night, it will sweep through.” The understanding of this message will bring sheer terror. The bed is too short to stretch out on, the blanket too narrow to wrap around you. The Lord will rise up as he did at Mount Perazim; he will rouse himself as in the Valley of Gibeon—to do his work, his strange work, and perform his task, his alien task. Now stop your mocking, or your chains will become heavier; the Lord, the Lord Almighty, has told me of the destruction decreed against the whole land.

Listen and hear my voice; pay attention and hear what I say. When a farmer plows for planting, does he plow continually? Does he keep on breaking up and working the soil? When he has leveled the surface, does he not sow caraway and scatter cumin? Does he not plant wheat in its place, barley in its plot, and spelt in its field? His God instructs him and teaches him the right way.

Caraway is not threshed with a sledge, nor is the wheel of a cart rolled over cumin; caraway is beaten out with a rod, and cumin with a stick. Grain must be ground to make bread, so one does not go on threshing it forever. The wheels of a threshing cart may be rolled over it, but one does not use horses to grind grain. All this also comes from the Lord Almighty, whose plan is wonderful, whose wisdom is magnificent.
