A Prayer for the Lost

The gospel confronts us with both the seriousness of eternity and the incredible mercy of God. Isaiah 33 portrays the Lord rising in power while sinners suddenly recognize the reality of standing before a holy God. That awakening produces an urgent question: who can stand in His presence? Yet God’s desire is not merely to terrify people with judgment, but to bring them to repentance, righteousness, and a transformed life in His presence. This gives urgency to our prayers for those who do not yet know Christ. As you pray today, ask the Holy Spirit to awaken hearts, open ears to the gospel, reveal the reality of eternity, and lead people into genuine repentance and saving faith. Pray not only that they would escape judgment, but that they would become wholehearted disciples who experience the fullness of life in Christ.

Prayer

Father, now destroy the destroyer that’s leading mankind to hell (vs. 1). Make Your stand against him. Fight for the souls of men that’ll be consumed before You if they do not repent and turn to You in faith. Send Your Spirit to open their ears so they can hear and receive the gospel. Cause them to acknowledge who You are and Your incredible power. May the fear of the Lord overcome them so they’ll be saved. Fill them with thoughts of eternity. Keep them from ignoring the inevitability of their coming death. Empower them to thoroughly repent. Give them a moral and ethical overhaul. Call them to the high places in Your presence. I not only want them to be saved from hell. I want them to come into all the promises. Teach them to trust for substance. Make them into disciples in Jesus name, amen. 

Isaiah 33:10-16

“Now will I arise,” says the Lord. “Now will I be exalted; now will I be lifted up. You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw; your breath is a fire that consumes you. The peoples will be burned to ashes; like cut thornbushes they will be set ablaze.” You who are far away, hear what I have done; you who are near, acknowledge my power! The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: “Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?” Those who walk righteously and speak what is right, who reject gain from extortion and keep their hands from accepting bribes, who stop their ears against plots of murder and shut their eyes against contemplating evil—they are the ones who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. Their bread will be supplied, and water will not fail them.
