A Prayer Acknowledging the Love of God
One of the most remarkable truths about God is that His justice is never separated from His love. In Isaiah 16, the Lord reveals His heart as He grieves over the coming destruction of Moab. Though judgment was necessary, God did not delight in it. Instead, He wept. This passage reminds us that God is compassionate, patient, and full of mercy. As you pray today, take time to reflect on the depth of the Father’s love and ask Him to form within you a heart that values mercy over condemnation and compassion over criticism.
Prayer
Father, You’re so loving and compassionate. Your loving justice is incomparable in the Earth. You wept for Moab. Your heart grieved over their destruction by the Assyrians. Thank You for being a God that never judges quickly. Thank You, Father, that when You do judge You do it with tears in Your eyes. Work this compassion and love into my heart. May I never be one that rejoices in judgment, but may I always be one who finds joy in mercy in Jesus name, amen.
Isaiah 16:9-13
So I weep as Jazer weeps for the vines of Sibmah. Heshbon and Elealeh, I drench you with tears! The shouts of joy over your ripened fruit and over your harvests have been stilled. Joy and gladness are taken away from the orchards; no one sings or shouts in the vineyards; no one treads out wine at the presses, for I have put an end to the shouting. My heart laments for Moab like a harp, my inmost being for Kir Hareseth. When Moab appears at her high place, she only wears herself out; when she goes to her shrine to pray, it is to no avail. This is the word the Lord has already spoken concerning Moab.
