At the darkest moment of the crucifixion, Jesus experienced the depth of human separation so that we could experience divine acceptance. Mark 15:33–34 captures the weight of sin and the cost of our redemption. Because Christ was forsaken, we are welcomed into the family of God. This prayer is a response to that grace—an invitation to extend to others the same acceptance, faithfulness, and sacrificial love we have received through Jesus. When we understand the price paid for our reconciliation, we are empowered to live lives that reflect His unwavering love toward others.
Prayer
Jesus, I’m forgiven because You were forsaken. You experienced the isolation of sin. Now I’m accepted by the Father. In light of this, I commit to a life of accepting others. I commit to faithfulness in my relationships because You were faithful to me. You were forsaken because You wouldn’t forsake me. Now I’ll not forsake my brothers and sisters, no matter how they may stumble and fall. Give me the same self-sacrificing love that You demonstrated on the cross. Hear my prayer offered in Your name, amen.
Mark 15:33-34
At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
