A Prayer for Trust in Difficult Times
Difficult seasons often tempt us to rely on our own wisdom, resources, and alliances rather than seeking God first. In Isaiah 18, Judah looked toward political partnerships for security while God was quietly working behind the scenes to deal with their enemies. The Lord’s message was clear: trust Him instead of relying on human solutions. When life becomes uncertain, faith calls us to wait, listen, and depend on God’s timing rather than our own understanding. As you pray today, ask the Lord to strengthen your trust in Him and teach you to seek His guidance before pursuing your own plans.
Prayer
Father, give me a faith that’ll lean on You in difficult times. As Judah and Ethiopia (or Cush) planned an alliance of self-reliance against Assyria. Isaiah warned them that this alliance was not necessary, and You were going to prune Assyria. Father, I don’t want to be a person that seeks to solve problems without inquiring of You. The result of this is me becoming unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). This leads to failed alliances. Help me to trust in You in Jesus name, amen.
Isaiah 18:1-6
Woe to the land of whirring wings along the rivers of Cush, which sends envoys by sea in papyrus boats over the water. Go, swift messengers, to a people tall and smooth-skinned, to a people feared far and wide, an aggressive nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers.
All you people of the world, you who live on the earth, when a banner is raised on the mountains, you will see it; and when a trumpet sounds, you will hear it.
This is what the Lord says to me: “I will remain quiet and will look on from my dwelling place, like shimmering heat in the sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”
For, before the harvest, when the blossom is gone and the flower becomes a ripening grape, he will cut off the shoots with pruning knives, and cut down and take away the spreading branches. They will all be left to the mountain birds of prey and to the wild animals; the birds will feed on them all summer, the wild animals all winter.
