A Prayer for the Holy Spirit’s Guidance

There are seasons when adversity, uncertainty, and difficult decisions make us desperately aware of our need for God’s guidance. Isaiah 30 gives a beautiful promise that God hears the cries of His people and directs them in the way they should go. The Holy Spirit has been given to lead us, convict us, order our steps, and expose anything competing for our trust. We do not have to navigate life alone. As you pray today, ask the Holy Spirit to make His direction clear, strengthen you through adversity, and give you the courage to follow wherever He leads.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, keep me from being overcome with adversity and affliction. Come to my aid right now! I need You. I need to hear Your voice. I need Your guidance and direction. Order my steps through Your providence. Convict me of any idol in which I’m trusting. I will gladly repent and cast it out. Thank You for living in me. I pray this in the name of Jesus, the giver of the Spirit.

Isaiah 30:19-22

People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you. Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Then you will desecrate your idols overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold; you will throw them away like a menstrual cloth and say to them, “Away with you!”
