A Prayer for Thanks for the Lord Compassion in Times of Weakness
Few experiences reveal our human frailty more clearly than sickness, suffering, and the prospect of death. King Hezekiah received the devastating news that his life was coming to an end. Overwhelmed with grief, he turned his face to the wall and cried out to the Lord. What happened next provides a beautiful picture of God’s compassion. The Lord heard his prayer, saw his tears, and graciously extended his life by fifteen years. This remarkable account reminds us that our prayers are never insignificant and our tears never go unnoticed by God. Even in our weakest moments, we can approach Him with confidence, knowing that He is compassionate, attentive, and powerful. As you pray today, thank the Lord for His tender mercy and His willingness to respond to the heartfelt cries of His children.
Prayer
Father, thank You that You hear us in our times of weakness. When we’re at the point of death, You have compassion for us. Thank You for being a compassionate God. Thank You for hearing our heart-felt prayers. Thank You for seeing every tear. Thank You that You’re always willing to change Your mind for our good. We love You!
Isaiah 38:1-6
In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”
Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.’”
