As Christians we love to think of ourselves as loving people, but so many times our love is theoretical in nature. God expects our love to be relational in nature and this prayer helps us make the transition from theoretical love  to relational love. I built this prayer from Galatians 6:1-6. Click on the prayer. Prayer

Holy Spirit, develop love within me. I renounce theoretical love. My pride loves the idea that I’m a loving person from afar, but You’ve called me to genuine love. My love must be relational in nature. Refine my ability to love others. Equip me with the skills of love. Your love compels me to restore the fallen. I will love the brethren throughout success and failure. I refuse to be disillusioned. I’ll love with my eyes wide open. Inspire me, through the love that You’re developing in me, to carry the burdens of my fellow believers. I will serve them when their burdens are heavy. Your love will kill my spiritual pride. Pride loves to compare, but true love never plays the comparison game. I repent of comparison right now. My heart’s desire is to love well. I choose to love my spiritual leaders. Your love requires me to receive their authority. I’ll give them a place of authority in my life. I receive this truth. I long for their feedback. Work Your love within me in Jesus name, amen.

Galatians 6:1-6

Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load. Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.
