A Prayer Asking for Alignment of Love, Action and Servanthood
Compassion is one of the clearest marks of a heart transformed by God, but biblical compassion is more than feeling sympathy—it moves us to action. In Isaiah 16, we find a plea to shelter refugees and protect those fleeing destruction. Through this passage, God reminds His people that love is demonstrated through practical service, wise generosity, and a willingness to open our lives to those in need. As you pray today, ask the Holy Spirit to align your heart with Christ’s heart of servanthood so that your compassion becomes action and your love becomes a refuge for others.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, turn my compassion for the refugee into action. I want to be able to help them, but in seeking to help them give me wisdom. Lead me to the teachable and cooperative. This way I can invest into those that will utilize my help the most. Help me to lovingly open my door to them. Give me a love and compassion that’s action-oriented. I’m asking for Jesus’s heart of servanthood in the name of Jesus, the God who acts, amen.
Isaiah 16:1-4
Send lambs as tribute to the ruler of the land, from Sela, across the desert, to the mount of Daughter Zion. Like fluttering birds pushed from the nest, so are the women of Moab at the fords of the Arnon. “Make up your mind,” Moab says. “Render a decision. Make your shadow like night—at high noon. Hide the fugitives, do not betray the refugees. Let the Moabite fugitives stay with you; be their shelter from the destroyer.”
