So if you have been a Caleb (see previous post), there is something still burning inside of you.  If you’re waiting for a second chance, the Lord wants you to know a few things to prepare you for the coming opportunity. (To read the previous post, then click HERE.)

  1. Know that you must keep asking!

Caleb kept asking for what the Lord had promised him.  Look at what Caleb says in Joshua 14:10-12:

“Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”

-Joshua 14:10-12

Caleb kept asking for what the Lord had promised him, and you need to keep asking for what the Lord has promised you.  Don’t grow weary in prayer!  Keep contending.

  1. Know your moment of opportunity is coming.

Your moment of opportunity is on the way.  However, you can’t make it happen before the window of opportunity opens. You must participate, watch, wait and act. You must participate in what God is doing in your context now. Even if it’s not directly tied to your personal dreams and goals.  It’s not all about you.  You must cross the Jordan, shout at Jericho, fight in the southern and northern campaigns, then receive your allotted portion.  In other words, you must be willing to participate in what God is generally doing until your specific window opens.  You must be a team player, and understand that the Father’s activity is larger than Your specific allotment. When you invest in what the Father is doing, then the Father will invest in your destiny.  When you sow into the Father’s larger purposes, then you reap fruit in your personal dominion.

You must also watch and wait for Your window to open. Caleb knew when both of Joshua’s two main military campaigns came to a conclusion that it was time to ask and time to act for the opportunity.  We must wait for what feels like an eternity, then act quickly, decisively and without delay when opportunity opens to us.

  1. Know your going with the blessing of your leaders.

“Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh…”

Joshua 14:13a

Some of you have felt invisible to your spiritual leaders.  Others have had no leaders at all, while others have maintained a healthy, friendly and close relationships with leaders. No matter your situation, your alignment with them is key, and being sent with their blessing will make the difference.  There is a difference between going on your own and being sent with power and blessing.

  1. Know your victory will link the past and the future.

“…gave him Hebron as his inheritance.”

Joshua 14:13b

Joshua gave Caleb Hebron.  Hebron is significant because it was the place where Abraham built an altar and purchased the first burial ground for his family (Genesis 13:18, 23:19). Hebron was the first ground owned by the Hebrews in the promised land.  Joshua gave Caleb the most historically significant territory within the Bible up until that point in Biblical history.

Caleb didn’t know that Hebron was going to be a place of future significance. He didn’t know that it would be the place where David would be anointed King by all the tribes of Israel (2 Samuel 5:1-3), or that it would be the place where Israel was unified, where the Davidic Kingdom began, where the future throne of the Messiah was established and where the first shadow of the Kingdom of God on earth was seen. This land was critical for Israel’s future.

Your second chance and victory will be rooted in what God has been doing since before you were even born! The influence of your life isn’t isolated, there’s a continuation between what God is doing now and what He will do in the future.  The part you play is but a few pages in the larger story God is writing, and you get to play a part within His larger story. Know that your victory will influence the future.  The future history of your nation may pivot on the small track of land that you take for the kingdom of God now.

  1. Know there will be significant giants settled on the land you’ve been promised.

“From Hebron Caleb drove out the three Anakites—Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai, the sons of Anak.”

Joshua 15:14

Anakites were the giants in the land.  It was the Anakites that invoked fear and unbelief within the other ten spies (Deuteronomy 1:28).  It was these giants that Joshua and  Caleb said could be conquered when they gave their report.  It was these giants that settled in the land of Hebron.  The land allotted to Caleb was settled by giants.

I want to remind you that just because time has lapsed and you have been given a second chance, it doesn’t mean the battle will be easier.  You will have to face the original giants that you said could be defeated years ago.

Caleb had to put his money where his mouth was. He had to do what he declared was possible.  He was created to march against the giants, and the giants were destined to be slain by his hands. You must live out all that you have declared is possible.

When you declare that God is able, then you must demonstrate that God is able. You become the manifestation of your faith. You become the fulfillment of your prophecy. You don’t just declare the word, you become the manifestation of that word.

The reality is that demons long to establish strongholds where there was once victory and where there are glimmers of potential.  The kingdom of darkness longs to guard the potential of the future. They attempt to thwart the Father’s larger story.

Just because it’s your second chance, it doesn’t mean the battle is going to be easier than before. After 45 years of growth and prayer, then you may have to single-handedly to defeat the enemies you would have collectively defeated a generation ago, but this is no problem when you have decades of extra preparation.

The enemy has hunkered down on your promises. Don’t fear the demonic!  March out and met them in battle. Destroy their stronghold!

  1. The breakthrough has the potential to change the culture of your family.

“And Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Aksah in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher.” Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Aksah to him in marriage. One day when she came to Othniel, she urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What can I do for you?”  She replied, “Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.”

-Joshua 15:16-19

Giant killers raise up other giant killers.  This was true for Caleb, and at a latter time it was true for David (2 Samuel 21: 15-22 & 1 Chronicles 11: 22-25). What Caleb did was attract son-in-laws for his daughters who had the courage to be be giant killers and somehow equipped them for the daunting task at hand. This created a family culture of victory. They were a family of bold, courageous giant-killers.  This gave them personal streams and access to the Holy Spirit from which other families didn’t have the opportunity to drink.  This flow of the Holy Spirit gave rise to the first judge of Israel. Othniel, Caleb’s son-in-law, was Israel’s first judge (Judged 3:8).

The Father’s desire is to raise up families that have a history of victory, faith, success and anointing. Your second chance will give opportunities to your relatives that previously was not present, and your victory can create a culture-shift in your family that can last for generations and can potentially bless the nations.

You second chance is coming.  Watch for it. Act decisively when the window of opportunity opens, tear down the strongholds that have been holding your promises captive, and release a new world of opportunity for your family! Prepare yourself.  Your second chance is coming.
