Prayer and intercession gives the believer the greatest power available on earth to us. Unfortunately, most Western Christians are the most prayerless people on earth. We suffer, and the world suffers. If we want to see revival in our nation and win our friends and neighbors to Christ, then we must go beyond prayer and step into intercession. Read this prayer based on Amos 7:1-9, and ask God to give you the burden of intercession.

Prayer

Father, give me a burden for prayer and intercession.  As I look at how Amos was able to save his nation from the swarming locust and from the judgement of fire solely through intercession, my heart is convicted.  Give me passion-filled intercession! Anoint me to cry out to You and to stand in the gap. Let the Holy Spirit groan through me (Romans 8:26). Let my prayers be perfectly aligned with the heart, thoughts and intercession of Jesus, the great Intercessor (Hebrews 7:25). Lord, raise up an army of intercessors like Amos who can change the course of history, but will also cry out until Your church meets the standard of Your plumb line. They will cry out until every demonic stronghold is brought down.  They will cry out to the God of war who will destroy every place they can hide from You. Raise up intercessors who will move You to action, and will cause You to destroy every spirit, every system of evil and every person who will lead Your people into wickedness in the Name of Jesus, God’s Intercessor.

Amos 7:1-9

This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up.  When they had stripped the land clean, I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!” So the Lord relented. “This will not happen,” the Lord said. This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire; it dried up the great deep and devoured the land.  Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!” So the Lord relented. “This will not happen either,” the Sovereign Lord said. This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in His hand. And the Lord asked me, “What do you see, Amos?” “A plumb line,” I replied. Then the Lord said, “Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer. “The high places of Isaac will be destroyed and the sanctuaries of Israel will be ruined; with my sword I will rise against the house of Jeroboam.”
