A Prayer of Intercession for Our Spiritual Leaders in Times of Crisis
When King Hezekiah received news of the Assyrian threats against Jerusalem, he did something that every believer should learn to do in a crisis: he humbled himself, entered the house of the Lord, and sought God’s counsel. Rather than depending solely on political alliances, military strength, or human strategies, Hezekiah recognized that Judah’s greatest hope was divine intervention. Through the prophet Isaiah, God responded with a powerful assurance: “Do not be afraid.” Even when the enemy continued to threaten Jerusalem, God’s promise remained unchanged. This passage teaches us that our first response to overwhelming circumstances should be prayer rather than panic. As you pray today, bring your greatest challenges before the Lord, seek His wisdom, and trust that He is able to accomplish what human strength cannot.
Prayer
Father, I pray for my spiritual leaders who must make decisions when the whole community of faith is under attack. Give them courage to face the challenge, faith to keep trusting in You, and wisdom to address the problems and circumstances they face. When the Devil calls out our leaders, give us the loyalty to stand with them and a submissive willingness to follow their lead in these challenging times. I pray for the key leaders who are involved in the decision-making process. May our plurality of leaders be synchronized and unified. Give them the clear path that needs to be taken. Centered them in Your will in the name of Jesus, the Lord of the Church.
Isaiah 35:13-22
Then the commander stood and called out in Hebrew, “Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria! This is what the king says: Do not let Hezekiah deceive you. He cannot deliver you! Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the Lord when he says, ‘The Lord will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’ Do not listen to Hezekiah. This is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then each of you will eat fruit from your own vine and fig tree and drink water from your own cistern, until I come and take you to a land like your own—a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards. Do not let Hezekiah mislead you when he says, ‘The Lord will deliver us.’ Have the gods of any nations ever delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they rescued Samaria from my hand? Who of all the gods of these countries have been able to save their lands from me? How then can the Lord deliver Jerusalem from my hand?” But the people remained silent and said nothing in reply, because the king had commanded, “Do not answer him.” Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went to Hezekiah, with their clothes torn, and told him what the field commander had said.
