A Prayer for Wisdom in the Battles of Life

Not every battle is yours to fight. Throughout Scripture, God demonstrates that wisdom is often more valuable than courage alone. In Isaiah’s prophecy against Arabia, some were instructed to flee and care for refugees rather than engage in a hopeless conflict. There are moments when faith calls us to stand firm, and there are moments when wisdom calls us to step aside. As you pray today, ask God to give you discernment to recognize the difference so your energy, strength, and devotion are invested where His purposes can best be accomplished.

Prayer

Father, help me to know when to run and when to fight. You told the tribes of Arabia to run and to care for their refugees, but they chose to fight and they paid the price for facing the Assyrians. Help me to have the wisdom to know when to bypass a battle and when to engage in one. Give me Your wisdom for my life. I don’t want to destroy my life fighting battles that aren’t mine to fight in the name of Jesus, the wisdom of God.

Isaiah 21:13-16

A prophecy against Arabia: You caravans of Dedanites, who camp in the thickets of Arabia, bring water for the thirsty; you who live in Tema, bring food for the fugitives. They flee from the sword, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow and from the heat of battle. This is what the Lord says to me: “Within one year, as a servant bound by contract would count it, all the splendor of Kedar will come to an end. The survivors of the archers, the warriors of Kedar, will be few.” The Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken.
