A Prayer for Humility

Isaiah 28 warns us about the destructive power of pride while showing us the beauty that comes when God Himself becomes the crown of His people. Ephraim had been blessed with abundance, but pride and self-indulgence caused that glory to fade. In contrast, the Lord promises to become a glorious crown, a source of justice, and strength for those who remain faithful to Him. True humility recognizes that every blessing, ability, opportunity, and victory ultimately comes from God. As you pray today, humble yourself before the Lord, acknowledge your complete dependence upon Him, and ask Him to replace pride with the beauty, strength, wisdom, and glory that come from a life fully surrendered to Him.

Prayer

O Father, Israel’s pride caused them to waste Your blessing like a drunkard wastes his money. Father, I humble myself before You. I declare that I’m dependent upon You. I need Your Spirit to fill me if I’m to be success in this life and in eternal affairs. When I am truly humble before You, then honor that humility by lifting me up (James 4:10). I ask that this humble trust in You will create undeniable beauty in my life. May this beauty start within, but let it move out into every part of my life. May Your glorious beauty be the crown on my head and the garnish to every part of my life. May the beauty of Your glorious work be so evident in my life that everyone can observe it. I pray this in Jesus name, the glorious king.

Isaiah 28:1-6

Woe to that wreath, the pride of Ephraim’s drunkards, to the fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of a fertile valley—to that city, the pride of those laid low by wine! See, the Lord has one who is powerful and strong. Like a hailstorm and a destructive wind, like a driving rain and a flooding downpour, he will throw it forcefully to the ground. That wreath, the pride of Ephraim’s drunkards, will be trampled underfoot. That fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of a fertile valley, will be like figs ripe before harvest—as soon as people see them and take them in hand, they swallow them.

In that day the Lord Almighty will be a glorious crown, a beautiful wreath for the remnant of his people. He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.
