As believers we have a social responsibility that’s placed on us by God. We’re mandated to stand for justice. The Lord burdens the hearts of individuals within His vast body with diverse calls to various forms of justice ministry.  Some He calls to serve the poor.  Others He calls to fight against abortion, and others hear the call to fight for justice within the legal system as police officers, lawyers or judges. Many believers serve orphans, widows, the mentally ill, the handicapped, etc. No matter where a believer is called to stand for justice, they need the courage to stand. Pray this prayer with me based on Amos 5:7-17.  This prayer asks the Father to give us the courage to stand for justice. My hope is the Lord will answer your prayer and You will stand up!

Prayer

Father, give us the courage to stand for justice and righteous. You created the constellations, day and night, formed the oceans, and we don’t even have enough courage to stand up for justice in the courts.  Lord, forgive us!  We have built our mansions, planted our vineyards, lived our lives and have forgotten the poor.  We have not been the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13).  We have abandoned the political and judicial systems; no wonder they are corrupt.  Our disengagement will cost us if we don’t repent.  We’ll lose our vineyards and homes due to the neglect of our civic responsibilities. Father, help us.  Motivate us!  Oppression thrives and we sit twiddling our thumbs.  Father, help us to seek the good that we may prosper.  Idleness and disengagement will be our destruction, so mobilize Your people to seek justice in the courts and to establish righteousness in the land.  Lord, when you see our action, I know You will act on behalf of Your people and the oppressed.  Our actions will prevent societal collapse, and we declare that everyone from the politician to the farmer will thank us for taking up the call You’ve given us in Jesus name, amen.

Amos 5:7-17

There are those who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness to the ground. He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land—the Lord is his name. With a blinding flash he destroys the stronghold and brings the fortified city to ruin. There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court and detest the one who tells the truth. You levy a straw tax on the poor and impose a tax on their grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine. For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts. Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times, for the times are evil. Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph. Therefore this is what the Lord, the Lord God Almighty, says: “There will be wailing in all the streets and cries of anguish in every public square. The farmers will be summoned to weep and the mourners to wail. There will be wailing in all the vineyards, for I will pass through your midst,” says the Lord.
