When Jesus healed on the Sabbath, the religious leaders resisted instead of rejoicing. This passage challenges us to stay open-hearted to what God is doing, even when it challenges our traditions or expectations. The prayer that follows is a call to align ourselves with Jesus’ work, becoming agents of healing and hope. If this speaks to your heart, share it so others can be stirred toward greater cooperation with God’s purposes.
Prayer
Jesus, my desire is to live a life of open hearted submission to You. I don’t want to behave like the religious leaders who anger and distress You. On the contrary, I want to cooperate with You, living my life in a way that observes Your activity and blesses Your actions (John 5:19). Place me on the right side of history. I never wish to stand against what You’re doing. I’ll partner with You in being an agent of healing. I repent of allowing my limited experiences to dictate who and how You can heal. Expand my perspectives. Teach me so I can be an agent of healing as well in Jesus name, amen.
Mark 3:1-6
Another time, in a synagogue, Jesus encountered a man with a shriveled hand. The Pharisees watched closely, hoping to accuse Him of working on the Sabbath. Jesus asked whether it was lawful to do good or evil, to save life or destroy it on the Sabbath. After looking around at them with deep anger and grief over their stubborn hearts, He told the man to stretch out his hand—and it was healed. This miracle prompted the Pharisees to conspire with the Herodians about how to kill Jesus.
