Jesus often took the long route. He went where others wouldn’t go, touched those others wouldn’t touch, and did the unexpected with deep compassion. His ministry reminds us that the Kingdom’s power flows best through willing hearts that are flexible, humble, and led by love. This prayer invites you to follow Jesus down those same unconventional paths—where miracles happen and lives are changed. If this prayer inspires you to step out in faith, share it with someone else who’s ready to walk the road less traveled.

Prayer

Jesus, I love You. You’re compassionate and unconventional. You heal people. You search them out. You walk off the beaten path. You take the long route. You touch tongues. You’re always doing the unexpected. I worship You for Your compassion and I long to be like You. Break me from my routine when it benefits Your Kingdom. I don’t wish to be a small-minded, conventional person. Teach me to walk the road less traveled. Assist me in putting myself in situations where I can serve with my gifts. Destroy needless predictability within me. Make me unconventional just like You. I’m asking You to do this in Your name, amen.

Mark 7:31-37

Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis. There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him. After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly. Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
