Mark 6:1–6a shows how quickly people can dismiss God’s work when it comes through someone familiar. Even Jesus faced rejection in His hometown. This passage calls us to humble hearts—ready to honor the gifts God places in others and receive from them without envy or pride. As you join this prayer, let it lead you into a posture that welcomes God’s grace through every vessel He chooses. Share this reflection with a friend who might need a gentle reminder to treasure the gifts around them.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, give me the humility to see the gifts You’ve given to Your people. I’ll never be jealous or disdain those gifts. Train me to honor gifted people so I can receive from them. Assist me in submitting myself to the grace that’s at work within them. Use them so the glory and fame of Jesus can spread and I can be edified in Jesus’ name, amen.

Mark 6:1-6a

Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.

Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.
