When Jesus taught about a divided kingdom and the danger of opposing the Holy Spirit (Mark 3:22–30), He gave us a sobering reminder of the importance of unity in His church. This prayer invites us to turn away from division, focus on Christ’s mission, and ask the Lord to strengthen us against the enemy’s schemes. As you pray, consider sharing this with someone who needs encouragement to walk in unity and faith.

Prayer

Jesus, unify Your church against the kingdom of darkness, because they’re unified against us. Focus our attention on the strong man. Help us to bring him down. I repent on behalf of the church for constantly bickering over minor theological issues. Forgive us for squabbling while the world descends into hell! Keep us from slandering the work of the Holy Spirit. Exercise Your authority in Your church in Your name I pray, amen.

Mark 3:22-30

And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.” So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house. Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”
