Conviction is one of the great gifts of grace, yet it is often the moment we resist the most. In Mark 14, Peter’s confidence collided with Jesus’ loving correction, revealing how easily self-assurance can harden our hearts when truth confronts us. This prayer is an invitation to respond differently—to quiet our defenses, embrace humility, and welcome the Holy Spirit’s correction as evidence of God’s care. A receptive heart allows conviction to do its holy work, leading us not into shame, but into transformation.
Prayer
Jesus, You know my failures and weaknesses better than I do. As You point out my areas of weakness, keep me from protesting Your correction. Shut my mouth unless I’m crying out for grace. Enable me to humble myself at the first sign of sin. I embrace my spiritual poverty so I can receive the riches of Your glorious grace (Matthew 5:3). Hear my prayer made in Your name, amen.
Mark 14:27-31
Jesus told them, “You will all fall away, for it is written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.” Peter declared, “Even if all fall away, I will not.” Jesus answered, “Truly I tell you, today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times.” But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the others said the same.
