Mark 10:35–41 gives us a glimpse into the bold request of James and John—an appeal for glory without fully understanding the cost. Jesus redirects their ambition toward eternal realities, challenging them to consider the path of sacrifice that leads to reward. This passage invites us to lift our eyes toward eternity and pursue a life that gains treasure that truly lasts. As you lean into this prayer, I encourage you to share it with others who want to live with a greater vision for the Kingdom.
Prayer
Jesus, I don’t know if I’ll ever sit at Your right hand in the Kingdom, but I do know I want to obtain a better resurrection. If that means embracing sufferings and persecutions, then I’m willing. Give me a drive and a vision for eternity. I long to gain great amounts of heavenly treasure by my deeds. I seek to live for You in a way that honors. In Your name I pray, amen.
Mark 10:35-41
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”
“What do you want me to do for you?” He asked.
They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”
“You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”
“We can,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”
When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John.
