There’s something sobering about watching the disciples forget a lesson they had just learned. Jesus had already multiplied loaves and fish once, yet here they are again wondering how to feed the crowd. It’s a mirror for our own hearts—how often we forget the faithfulness of God from one test to the next. This prayer invites us to pause, reflect, and ask for grace to actually learn from our experiences with God. May every miracle, every answered prayer and every challenge become a classroom where faith matures.
If this prayer speaks to you, share it with someone else who’s growing in faith. Let’s help others remember that God’s past faithfulness is the greatest predictor of His future provision.
Prayer
Jesus, just a chapter and a half back I read almost the same story, and then I see the disciples saying the same things. It’s like they learned nothing. Part of me wants to shout, “You knuckle headed bunch of buffoons, haven’t you learned anything?” But then I realize I’m making the same mistakes. I have the same responses. Always shocked when You move, like You haven’t promised it. God, forgive me. Help me learn from my experiences with You. Let every miracle I witness change me forever. Empower me to be one of the rare breeds that passes the test the second time in Jesus name, amen.
Mark 8:1-10
During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.” His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?” “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied.
He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them. The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
