When Jesus called His first disciples, He gave them a new identity: fishers of men. That call continues today. Mark 1:16-20 invites us to leave behind the ordinary for an extraordinary mission. May this prayer stir a fresh commitment in your heart. Be sure to share it with others who long to answer His call.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, open my ears to hear the call to become a fisher of men. I must hear the call in the depth of my heart. I must feel the burning conviction over the lostness of humanity. Grip my soul with a conviction that moves me to cry out for the lost and compels me to preach the gospel. Holy Spirit, fill me with passion for the lost. Give me strategies to catch them and pull them into the boat. Holy Spirit, make me an effective fisher of men in Jesus’ name, amen.
Mark 1:16-20
As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
